Bristol's Badass Burlesque Show

Laura Mai & The C-Spot

Burlesque Singer Miss Laura Mai tells CoochieCrunch.com about the launch of her new event, The C-Spot which launches 14 September.

I started performing professionally at 4 years old. I used to do child modelling and Dance classes and also attended one of the biggest stage schools in The UK called Lane Management. At 8 years old I landed my first TV role on a show called The Children’s Ward. I have lots of great memories from that time in my life. I also attended a weekend stage school in Liverpool, we would perform all over the country in competitions and theatre shows, including The West End. It would be me as the singer and then the rest would be my dancers and they were amazing!

I was all set to head off to London to the Silva young school of arts when the sudden tragic death of my sister changed my life forever, I gave up performing and went to a normal main stream school when I had the best years of my life and met my best friends in the whole world. When I was 16 I decided to move abroad and work as a singer travelling around the world in different hotels and wonderful venues. I then fell in love and moved back to the UK to the South West got married and had a baby. With in a year I was itching to get back on the stage! but I had lost all my confidence after gaining weight from pregnancy and needed to get myself fit again so I started take Burlesque classes and fell in love with it!

I went to a Burlesque show and the singer they has was awful, so I contacted the venue and offered to to perform for free as an audition. They liked me, so they paid me and then offered me a residency. From there I just got bigger and better shows and worked my butt off trying to promote myself. I then met up with The Flaming Feathers and we started performing together.

I am now starting my own showgirl backing dancers for a full 2 hour, 45 minute set. We are working so hard at the moment to be ready for the Christmas season. It’s me and 4 beautiful dancers, all classically trained and professional it’s going to be a very exciting chapter in my life!

I am now working on The ‘C’ Spot, my own cabaret and comedy night. We have some of the best performers from around the world as well as amazing local performers too. Launch night for the club is Friday, 14 September. We have Carrie-Ann O D’ell performing not only her amazing Martini glass act but also her Birds of Paradise Act with her amazing bird cage prop. It’s going to be out of this world!

Myself and The Flaming Feathers will be performing together and solo. We also have the star of the new horror movie The Devil Inside and Pixie Le Knot performing along side her new partner Ahmahd Thomas, all mixed in with Countess ArseUppi as our Hostess. We are also have space for some lovely stall holders and we will be having an auction for the beautiful little boy Harvey Hext who I do lots of charity work for. It’s going to be incredible and a monthly show if the first one is a sell out! The venue is fantastic, with beautiful chair and table covers and stunning centrepieces. There will be food served at every show at an extra charge and of course a full wine list. We just want people to come enjoy amazing talent relax and unwind.
