Bristol's Badass Burlesque Show

Glitter on the Back Porch

Miss Lucy Doris Heard has an interesting proposition for all bodacious crafters out there.

I host craft parties for Hens (and Stags) and really enjoy sharing my passion for making Fascinators and Tassels amongst other things, but I never get to join in and make along with everyone else. I’m very much for people sharing skills and everyone improving together, after all you only get out what you put in.

Glitter Spillage

I’ve always had a great time when I’ve got together with other performers to work on new skills or group shows. This got me thinking, wouldn’t it be great if there was somewhere I could go, chat with other like minded types. Instead of staying home and sticking on a million hot fix crystals to a thong on my own, I could chat to the sort of people who would ask, ‘How can I make a space suit that splits down the middle and revels a hand puppet alien?’ or ‘How can I make these massive pants look pretty and that I don’t expose my dignity during the Can-Can?’

I had a look around and there are loads of courses you can if you want to learn formal sewing skills but no where you can go just to have a bit of fun. I decided to start a group on Facebook called Glitter Spillage. The response overwhelming to be honest, with over 30 people joining in the first few days, Craft & More giving us a discount and The Folk House Cafe offering their space to use. All this was less than a fortnight ago!

Our opening party/session is the 14th of May, best of all it’s FREE if you bring your own projects to work on or you can use materials that I bring along for a small cost. I’ll have kits for facinators and pasties, lots of fabrics, ribbons and shiny things to use.

If you have any specific ideas you want to try out drop me an email – sayhellotodoris@gmail.com and we can discuss.

So, if you need a hat for that summer wedding, a pair of pasties for your new act or you just want to learn something new, come along. No experience needed, no need to book, just promise you won’t eat the glue or run with scissors.

The Cafe will be open on Monday for food and drink, you can check out there menu here http://www.folkhousecafe.co.uk/

Glitter Spillage will be held at the Folk House Cafe, Park Street, Bristol 7pm-9pm on the 14th of May, 11th June and the first Monday of the Month from September.
